What to Do if You're a Victim of Identity Theft?

  • Report it to your Financial Institution and immediately close any accounts which may have been compromised
  • Contact the police and file a police report 
    • Be sure to ask for a copy of the report
  • You may need the report when dealing with claims made by creditors
  • Call the 3 main credit bureaus, place a fraud alert on your credit reports and review the reports

  • Get a free copy of your credit report
  • Close any accounts that the thief opened or compromised
  • If your driver’s license or government identification card has been stolen, cancel it immediately and get a replacement
  • File an official complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
