Tools to Prevent Fraud

Within PCSBank e-Banking:

  • Select Manage Cards to disable or enable your card or set merchant or transaction controls.
  • Select Security & Account Alerts to alert you via email or text message of various scenarios:
    • Balance Alerts
    • Credit of debit transactions above a specified dollar threshold
    • Transfer above a specified dollar threshold
    • External transfer above a specified dollar threshold

Other Tools:

  • Mobile Wallet is a digital wallet that stores a Debit Card on a mobile device which allows for a convenient way to make purchases.
    • Your Debit Card number isn’t shared with the merchant but rather a unique number is generated for each transaction
    • Also referred to as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay.

Tips to Avoid Debit Card Fraud

Protect your Debit Card number and PIN
  • Store your card in a secure place
  • Use an RFID purse/wallet or sleeve to protect your card from card scanning
    • Ask a teller or banker at PCSB to receive a RDFI sleeve
  • Keep your PIN confidential, memorize it and never write it down or share it
Keep a close eye on your online accounts
  • Look for any unexpected activity
Set up security/account alerts and manage card controls within e-Banking
  • Security alerts are sent immediately whereas account alerts are sent every 12 hours
Report lost or stolen cards immediately
  • Contact your bank as soon as you notice your card is missing
Be aware of scams
  • Scammers may try to trick you into giving them your card information by posing as legitimate businesses
Use secure ATM’s
  • Choose well-lit and reputable locations, and look for signs of tampering, skimming or shimmering devices
Use Mobile Wallet (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay) or Contactless payment options
  • When your Debit Card is added to Mobile Wallet (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay), the card number isn’t shared with the merchant but rather a unique number is generated for each transaction
  • Contactless payment option avoids you having to insert your card into the machine; therefore, your information is encrypted without having to pass through a card reader that may have a skimmer attached
Protect your computer and mobile device
  • Use firewall, antivirus and anti-spyware software on your computer and mobile devices while regularly updating it
Be cautious with online purchases
  • Make online purchases from reputable secure websites – URL starts with https://
  • Avoid public Wi-fi networks
  • Avoid purchasing from websites accessed via links on Social Media
